Measurement and Update Unit. New values

On January 9th, 2020, the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (“INEGI” for its acronym in Spanish”), informed the new values of the Measurement and Update Unit (“UMA” for its acronym in Spanish), which will be in force as of February 1st, 2020.
The new values are the following:

We must mention that the UMA is used to determine the amount to pay obligations and other cases established by the federal and local laws, in accordance with the “Decree to amend and add several provisions of the Mexican United States Political Constitution to detach the minimum wage” (“Decree”), which was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on January 27th, 2016.
In employment law, the UMA is generally used, to calculate the fines imposed by the Labor and Social Welfare Ministry to employers due to violations to the labor legal provisions, including the Mexican Official Standards.
On the contrary, the federal courts have established that the UMA is not applicable for social security matters, since those are cases in which the minimum wage must be considered as set forth by the law.
